More room for error if you put it off glass. You're going full speed and you put it on the rim it's more likely to hit back rim and bounce out. Glass gives you more options and angles to finish from too. Especially in traffic.

i know, it's so hard! do i want to throw the ball through the basket or through at the square? and i wouldn't want to upset the gray little plastic lining, would I? my parents always told me to share. maybe i should just throw the ball at my brother. lenny wilkins confused me!!!

Why can't you just lay the ball on the rim instead of tryna bank it? Unless you're shot, I think guys over 6'2 can do that.
