The plain did not run out of gas. He had just finished a concert at a University that he promised to do. Upon takeoff, the plane did not gain enough altitude to clear a pecan tree at the end of the runway, which investigators said was the only tree for hundreds of yards.

Jim Croce for all the great music he gave us when he was alive deserves to be included in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame . This song is also painful for me after the loss of a girlfriend that I had for 18 years . The heartache came after she was arrested in Florida for buying drugs from an undercover narcotics officer . She also had a warrent out on her in Ohio for Identity Theft and was busted for that too . I will never be able to trust her or belive her again !

Just think of the songs he would have sung if he had just a little more time. From what I've heard, he wrote a lot of these songs for his wife while he was on the road trying to make a name for himself. While in route home, his plane runs out of gas at the end of the runway. Don't seam fitting end for a guy of his talent. But neither did John Lennon, Sam Kennison,Patsy Cline,Jimi Hendrix,George Harrison...the list is too long but I will miss all of 'em, and THANKS for the memorys

You know, it is kinda funny, some people say all of Jim's songs were based on his real ife experiences, so he must of had one really messed up life, but he took all of those bad experiences and made many, many, great songs, like this song itself.

My dad would always sing Jim Croce to me, and I never was a huge fan as a kid, but now as I re-listen to his music, and I have my own life experience I really enjoy his music. This song happens to describe what I'm going through right now. Thanks for this video.
